Cooper was diagnosed with mucopolysaccharidos type 4A (MPS 4A) when he was two years old, which means Cooper’s body doesn’t make the enzyme that you and I have that takes the waste out of his cells. Because of this, the waste builds up, damages his organs and causes severe skeletal abnormalities. He's had to get weekly infusions since is diagnoses, as well as many many surgeries. The thing that helped him get through all of this was his love for hockey. He would play hockey in the hallway of the hospital with his friends and watch Avalanche games.
Cooper was the special guest at the Colorado College hockey game where the guys showed him around the facilities and he was able to celebrate with them in the locker room after the game.
