From Our Hearts
Through our own personal journey with our dear son, Mitchell, we know firsthand the heartache that parents face, when their child is diagnosed with a critical illness. After our ordeal, we never thought that we would or could form a non-profit, but we believe, we were directed by a higher calling. As we were mourning our son's death GOD was carrying for us along the way. We now look back, and see so clearly, the fingerprints of GOD all over this foundation and the families we serve. Through His strength and grace, we can now humbly say that we have helped a great number of children & families. Since our founding in 2009, we have discovered that over 50% of families, whose child is diagnosed with a critical illness, experience divorce or separation; and the stress will test these families beyond their endurance, often bankrupting them financially, emotionally and physically.
However, when communities of willing and giving hearts come together, miracles DO happen. This has been our experience and the experience of our Foundation. Our families do not want pity; they just need a helping hand in a time of crisis. We encourage our families, by letting them know they are not alone, and by giving them hope that there are good people, who really care.
Please join the MTF family and our incredible volunteers by getting involved or donating to a child. It will not only change for the better the children and the families we serve, but yours in the process. |

Our Inspiration
The foundation was inspired by our son Mitchell, who fought a 5 year courageous battle with an undiagnosed illness that took our family across the United States looking for answers. Mitchell could no longer walk or talk; and he had difficulty seeing. The pain in his head was so severe, that no medicine helped and he went through myoclonic seizures due to the constant pain. None of the many hospitals or doctors could heal him, or even find what caused his excruciating pain.
Mitchell’s life-threatening symptoms began at age 13 and he passed away at age 18. He was a remarkable young man, a 4.0 GPA scholar and an accomplished athlete. Mitchell had a kind, gentle spirit and his joy and light radiated out to all who knew him. His life was defined by his family, his faith, his friends and his incredible passion for baseball. Mitchell’s strength and courage (Joshua 1:9) lives on through the Mitchell Thorp Foundation as inspiration to young athletes and children who suffer from life-threatening illnesses.
The Thorp’s truly understand what community is all about after receiving the incredible emotional and financial support, as well as the outpouring of love that took place on their behalf. It was a natural progression, inspired by Mitchell and directed by GOD that led them to form the Foundation in Mitchell’s memory to help others.
Scripture of Strength That Mitchell Loved and Lived By
