Mitchell Thorp made an indelible impression on his family, fellow athletes, fellow students, friends and the greater community. Mitchell's courageous struggle for life embodied a "can do" attitude in all who knew him. Both kids and parents supported him in his struggle. Mitchell stirred a spirit of volunteerism in the community and thousands responded. The City of Carlsbad named a baseball field after Mitchell, honoring his inspirational life journey. Thorp Field is located at Poinsettia Park in Carlsbad, California. 

​MTF awards grants to Carlsbad Youth Baseball Association and La Costa Youth Organization to kids who can't afford to the play the game that Mitchell loved. As a way of carrying on Mitchell's legacy, his family has created the Mitchell Thorp Awards.  
This award honors a player who has demonstrated:

• A passion for the game.

• The player should show a willingness to help others and to be a strong supportive teammate.
• The player should be a leader who has earned the respect of his teammates and coaches through hard work and dedication to the game.
• The player should also have a strong academic and community involvement.
