Brad & Beth all too intimately know the needs of families with children suffering from life-threatening illnesses, and they know the difference that emotional and financial support can make during the most stressful and heartbreaking times. During their five year journey with their own son's illness, they were supported by the Carlsbad community and the walk/run created to help with all their medical costs. Today, six years after their son Mitchell passed away, the Thorps are committed to supporting and offering hope for other families in need through the Mitchell Thorp Foundation Posted In: MTF Events A glorious morning in Carlsbad greeted more than a 1,000 walkers, runners and spectators at the sixth Annual Hearts for Hope 5K Run/Walk held Feb. 7 at Poinsettia Park. The event benefits the Mitchell Thorp Foundation, which provides financial, emotional and resource support to families whose children suffer from life-threatening illnesses, diseases and disorders. Posted In: MTF Events Mitchell Thorp Foundation sponsored a 5K Run/Walk to raise money for families with kids with life-threatening diseases. the event wash held on Feb. 7 at Poinsettia Park in Carlsbad. Sponsors NRG, Independent Financial Group, Datron, Avista Technologies, Road Runner sports and U.S. Bank. A total of $162,500 was raised. The illness and passing of a child is the worst nightmare of any parent. Aside from the devastation of the loss, nearly 80 percent of families in these situations dissolve, with bankruptcy and family separation as frequent outcomes. The evening was filled with elegant food, hosted bar, live music and New York Style Runway Fashion Show. |
