- The Mitchell Thorp Foundation supports families through financial assistance, emotional support, and access to vital resources, we help families navigate the overwhelming challenges that come when a child is diagnosed with a critical medical condition.
Why do we do what we do?
Today, 1 in 285 children in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 20, and thousands more face rare and critical medical conditions each year. When a child is diagnosed, families are often forced to make impossible choices—many parents must reduce work hours or leave their jobs entirely to care for their child, creating an immediate and significant financial burden while medical and travel expenses continue to rise. In many cases, treatment and therapy last 18 months or longer, making long-term support essential for families.
The Mitchell Thorp Foundation steps in during these moments of crisis to provide direct financial relief, supportive programs, and a compassionate community—ensuring families can focus on what matters most: caring for their child and holding onto hope during the most difficult time of their lives.

The foundation helps cover urgent expenses such as housing, utilities, groceries, accessibility modifications, and other essential needs. By paying vendors directly, families avoid tax issues or losing medical aid benefits. We provide a wrap around service for the hospitals
