Alyssa May O'Neal is our 10-year-old princess warrior. Alyssa was born with an auto-immune disease called Diamond Blackfan Anemia. She has endured monthly blood transfusions and steroid treatments since birth. Finally, she has been matched with a perfect donor for a bone marrow transplant.
Although the future looks promising there will still be many more doctor appointments and treatments while Alyssa's immune system rebuilds. Because of Covid-19 and the sterile environment required for Alyssa, her parents have taken a hiatus from work to be with her. Mitchell Thorp Foundation has helped us under their Medical & Home Assistance Program to help us with our utility bill and gas cards to get to an from the hospital. Any other assistance is greatly appreciated during this time.

Baby Ezra was born with severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) mom has been in the hospital six months with him since he was born on May 4, 2020. His team of doctors & immunologists have determined that he has athymia, and will ultimately need a thymus transplant. This is a very lengthy process, potentially up to 2/3 years on the waitlist, could be up to a year at Duke in North Carolina, and a year or longer after that before the thymus has been functioning enough to provide him a sufficient immune system. It is going to be a long road of isolation to protect him and so many adjustments at home. Ezra will have to live in a bubble due to his current condition.
